The purpose of the Gumbo Fest is to provide a familiy-oriented event with a festive atmosphere in the mid-town Gary community, to acquaint those who may not have heard of or participated in the Live Up Art activities and to serve as our major fund raiser for the revenue needed to perpetuate our program.

By sponsoring this type of festivity, it gives us an opportunity to show who we are, what we are about, demonstrate to businesses and other community leaders that we are an organization worth supporting.

This event shares a cultural dish that generates discussion and tantalizes the sophisticated pallets of food connoisseurs and novices alike. Gumbo, there's so many different types and everyone who knows how to prepare it, thinks theirs is the best. So we give the cooks a forum to establish bragging rights by allowing the community at-large to determine whos Gumbo is the best. Trophies are awarded to the top 4 dishes.
